Available Horse Program
Recently we have been receiving so many phone calls, messages, and emails about horses in our Available Horse program so we thought this was the perfect opportunity to give you the behind the scenes details on how our program works. Typically we bring in young horses between the ages of two and four years old and once they have settled into our environment we begin our ground work. Ground work consists of 3-4 weeks as we prepare the horses to start riding under saddle. The young horses are taught the fundamentals of free lunging, long lining, ground driving, manners, and this is where trust is build with the horse.
Once the horse graduates our foundation training on the ground it is then started under saddle. Our philosophy is the less pressure on the horse the better. As we start our horses we encourage forward movement and assure that the horses are comfortable and prepared to handle each step in the riding process. This means the more speed in the movement the more pressure we create. To keep our horses progressing we are sure to reward them for their smallest efforts.
The horses that come through our program look forward to each training session because each experience is a positive one. When starting our horses under saddle we make sure and break down each task into the simplest form as possible. This keeps our expectations lower and sets the horse up to feel as if they have won! We enjoy working with young horses and starting them under saddle is our specialty. How far does a horse get in our program? Well that’s a great question. Each horse progresses to a walk, trot, and canter in the arena, is trail ridden and exposed to many things typical to horse facilities and horse adventures. Usually they have been hauled out a few times, stalled occasionally, put in paddocks in group settings, cross tied, or tied to a hitching post, etc. These horses are prepared for you using our proven methods so that you can take them whichever direction you would like them to go!
Occasionally we bring in seasoned horses that have a background in performance or competition as well as safe outdoor riding. These horses remain in our program until they have proven themselves as safe and reliable so that we can honestly represent each horse because we have put them to the tests ourselves. Seasoned horses will also be ridden or competed on so the buyer has a good idea of what they are getting. This helps buyers progress forward with their horse goals and achieve success in the next levels of competition.
